Got the E61i

December 17, 2007

It’s been some time since I wrote my last post. After much thinking, finally decided to get the E61i and I think I made the best decision ever!

Got my E61i from United Mobile in Islamabad, Blue Area for Rs.26,000 in December 2007.
Before buying I had looked up Nokia’s official website to check which company was providing Authorised Services in Pakistan, United Mobile and Teletec were the only ones listed.

Getting it directly from United Mobile’s shop was expensive, but most of the shops in Jinnah Market & Blue Area had the E61i with “Advance Telecom” warrenty. I did not want to risk getting bad after sales services from Advance, so got United Mobile’s Warrenty.

The package of the E61i included:
Free Nokia MicroSD 256MB card.
Nokia Pop-Port USB connecter.
Mono Headphones.
Charger.

The E61i has exceeded my expectations. The browsing is pure pleasure with Telenor’s EDGE. Downloading speed is 1MB/30 to 45 seconds, which is awesome.

I have installed two free messengers to use MSN messenger & GoogleTalk in the E61i. These softwares also work with all other Symbian S60 3rd Edition phones.

Fring Mobile VOIP messenger with Chat:
http://www.fring.com
Fring has;
SKYPE,
MSN Messenger,
Yahoo Messenger,
GoogleTalk,
ICQ,
SIP,
TWITTER.

Slick Messenger:
http://www.lonelycatgames.com/?app=slick
Slick has;
MSN Messenger,
ICQ,
Yahoo,
AIM,
Google Talk,
Jabber

I have installed free MobiReader to read Ebooks, which you can find here:
http://www.mobipocket.com/en/DownloadSoft/application.asp?device=SymbianOs

And free Beta Nokia Audiobook player to manage & listen to Audiobooks, which you can find here:
http://www.nokia.com/betalabs/audiobooks

Please note that Nokia AudioBook is still in testing Beta phase, so there might be some bugs. To date I have not encountered any bugs.

Will write more later.

    By any chance did you consider buying Sony Erickson P990i? Would you have any idea of how P990i compares with E61i (performance-wise ofcourse).

    regards

    AC:
    Thanks Andrew! I’m in love with the E61i. I would say it’s one of the best investments I have made in quite some time. Thoroughly enjoying every minute. :)

    I have just recently started visiting your blog, and find it very informative. :)

    Have answered your question partially in my latest post. About the performance, well it totally depends on your needs. Are you comparing performance of the OS? The camera? Browser? Keyboard?

    The software in the P910i was full of bugs, P990i was a little shaky, and the new P1i is the improved version with most-if not all- of the bugs removed and loads of memory added.

    Do you require the phone for browsing the internet extensively? If yes, then the P1i would be good. The E61i is just as capable.

    @ash

    If you browse through the posts, I keep writing about softwares I install from time to time.

    I have written about DivX player, Screenshot, mIRGGI IRC and emtube. You should try Slick messenger as well.

    The softwares I write about are all free softwares, so no trial or buying needed. :)

    On the E61i, typing on Slick messenger is very fast & it saves history too. I’ve found typing on Fring comparatively slower. So do check which one is better suited for your needs. :)

    Regards

    The link is working fine. I just checked it. I have provided the official Slick website. If you are still facing problems of downloading it, then check http://www.allaboutsymbian.com or http://www.handango.com

    Even easier is to write down ’slick”and google it. You’ll find many websites providing the Slick application.

    But I always recommend downloading applications from reputed websites to avoid any mishap.
