Telenor’s Postpaid Smartmail memail GPRS not working properly on the PC

It’s been a couple of weeks since my MSN and Yahoo messengers stopped working on my computer. Then hotmail stopped opening. I thought maybe it’s because of the underwater internet cable that was cut, but now I’m not quite so sure.

I hooked up my laptop with Wateen’s Wimax net and tried the messengers, they worked without any problems. Then I tried Telenor’s Smartmail memail GPRS, and the messengers stopped working.

The strange thing is that when I try Telenor’s Internet APN on the PC, the messengers work, but they stop working as soon as I try Telenor’s memail APN.

This problem only happens when I use the computer. Using the memail APN on the phone itself, both the mobile messenger’s FRING and SLICK work.

I called the Customer Support at 345 to check what was up, and they said that there is some sort of an upgrade going on, but I doubt it. The information provided by Telenor’s Customer Support representatives are useless. They are well mannered and talk politely, but they don’t know a darn thing of what they are talking about. I’ll check up with the people at Telenor’s office as soon as I get some time.

Gmail POP3 Email Settings in Nokia E61i and other Symbian S60 mobiles

I am writing this post on setting up Gmail POP email because some people requested it, but I would still recommend using Gmail IMAP Email Settings. which I posted a while back. The easiest way to set up your Gmail POP3 Email Inbox is to go to MENU> TOOLS> SETT.WIZARD> E-MAIL SETTINGS and simply follow the instructions.

The default settings of Settings Wizard is for POP3 Gmail Email Inbox.

Or do it manually by following the steps provided by Gmail here
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13287

Standard instructions:

  1. Enable POP in your Gmail account. Don’t forget to click Save Changes when you’re done.
  2. Configure your client to match the settings below:
  3. Incoming Mail (POP3) Server - requires SSL: pop.gmail.com
    Use SSL: Yes
    Port: 995
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS: smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
    Use Authentication: Yes
Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL)
    Port: 465 or 587
Account Name: your Gmail username (including @gmail.com)
Email Address: your full Gmail email address (username@gmail.com)
    Password: your Gmail password
  4. You’re now ready to use POP with your Gmail account.

INCOMING E-MAIL Settings

Incoming Gmail POP Port

OUTGOING E-MAIL Settings

Go to OPTIONS>CONNECT
Connect Gmail

Now, go to OPTIONS> RETRIEVE E-MAIL> ALL
Retrieve Email ALL

That’s it. Now you can start using Gmail POP email.

I will still strongly recommend that you try Gmail IMAP Email as it is faster, and has more benefits than POP3.

Browsing Websites on Nokia E61i

The E61i’s Built-In Browser handles all the websites I visit regularly without a hitch. There may be heavy websites which may cause a memory problem, but as I don’t visit heavy websites often, I cannot confirm it. If you guys would like me to visit a certain website, then leave a comment, and I’ll be happy to check it out for you.

Blogging Websites like www.livejournal.com and www.wordpress.com are easily opened in E61i.

You can also install the Opera Mini Browser on the Nokia E61i to make your browsing experience even faster.

Here are some screenshots of websites which I browsed on the E61i’s Built-In Browser.

Screenshot 3.01 By Antony Pranata

Today I tested the excellent free software Screenshot 3.01 developed by Antony Pranata
Screenshot 3.01 can be found here: http://www.antonypranata.com/screenshot

Note: Remember to install Screenshot in the Phone Memory (NOT THE MEMORY CARD) otherwise it will be difficult to uninstall it. (All Symbian S60 3rd Edition phones face this uninstall problem)

Screenshot 3.01 works like the Print Screen in our PC’s. This enables you to take pictures i.e. screenshots of the screen of your symbian cellphone.

Here is a test Screenshot that I took of my Nokia E61i’s Active Standby screen
