DivX Mobile Video Player for Nokia E61i and other Symbian S60 3rd Edition & Windows Mobile phones.

March 9, 2008

The DivX Mobile Player is a video player which plays DivX movies & video’s on all Symbian S60 3rd Edition and Windows Mobile phones.

I have installed DivX Mobile player on my Nokia E61i and use it regularly. It works beautifully. I highly recommend DivX Mobile Player for the E61i and other Symbian S60 3rd Edition phones.

The Official DivX Mobile Website www.divx.com/mobile

The DivX Mobile Player is a free software, but before you can download, you will have to register an Account at their website.

Follow 3 steps to download the Free Software:

1). Register at Divx Website here: www.divx.com/account
2). Login to your DivX Account here: http://mobile.divx.com/mobile
3). Download the Free DivX Mobile Player which is compatible with your phone.

For more help go to this link: www.divx.com/mobile/how-to.php

Note: From Version 0.90 onwards, DivX has removed the ability to install DivX Mobile Player to Memory Cards. V0.90 now supports playback of DivX “Video On Demand” media and for security reasons the application is restricted to only install on internal phone memory. Read about it here http://labs.divx.com/node/6288
DivX Install. Folder
Testing DivX Mobile Player was awesome. I converted some movies using the Free DivX Mobile Converter from the www.DivX.com website, and the movies played on the E61i beautifully.

After the DivX Mobile Converter expired, I started using another excellent free conversion software called Super Converter by eRightSoft to convert movies & videos to DivX format.

You can find Super Converter here www.erightsoft.com/home.html

It’s a hassle to find Super Convertor, as their website is confusing. So, I’ll try to make finding it as easy as possible.

1). When you click the www.erightsoft.com/home.html link, you will see 3 products. Super is the Freeware product on the right side of the page.
2). Under the image you will see a link saying ” Download & use for free…“. Click on this link & wait till the page fully opens. Don’t move your cursor, as it will take you to the link on its own.
3). You will then see a link saying “Start Downloading SUPER ©“. Click this and it will take you to another page.
4). Finally on this new page, you will see “download and use“. Click this, and the downloading will start.

DiVX.com website says:
Settings for most suitable conversion for smooth playback on DivX Mobile Player: For the best playback results on most mobile phones, convert your videos to DivX at 24 or 30 fps, 320×240 resolution, 300 kbps video and 128 kbps stereo audio.”

I tried the above settings for converting videos for my Nokia E61i as DiVx.com recommended, but sometimes the video’s were not playing well or the sound wasn’t syncing with the video’s correctly. So I made my own “Super Converter settings”, which makes perfect video’s for viewing with DivX Mobile in my Nokia E61i!

My “Super Converter Settings” for best video playback in Nokia E61i can be seen in this screenshot.

Here are some screenshots of the movie “Jodha Akbar” as viewed with the DivX Mobile Player on my E61i. “Jodha Akbar” was converted from DVD format to Xvid format using the Super Converter.

I have just written a post about Yahoo! Go, so you can read about it from there.

You can find IM+ on trial basis here http://www.shapeservices.com/en/products/details.php?product=im&platform=s60v3
After the trial period was over, I paid for it. It is not free.

For msn messenger check this link

Good to hear that the messenger is working on your phone. I’ve set up my web presence in the About section of the blog, but I don’t get much time for chatting. If you need to know anything you are most welcome to ask them here. Just leave a comment on the blog and I’ll answer them whenever I get time, or you can mail me here: moblogpk [at] yahoo [dot] co [dot] uk

Hi! :) The following instructions will hopefully solve your problem:

Before installing any software on the E61i, one very important thing to do is, go to

    Menu> App.Manager> Options> Settings> Software Installation
In ”Software Installation” make it ”ALL”, otherwise you will get an error while installing most freeware on the E61i.

If you have already followed this and are still getting a ”Unable to Install Error”, then double check if the divx software is for Symbian S60 3rd Edition.

    Good day!

    @Faycel
I remember the guy at United Mobile shop in Blue Area, Islamabad saying that they didn’t have Nokia E61i’s cover at the moment (this was in December 2007), but the original cover will be available later with them for Rs.1,200 – Rs.1,500. So you can check it out there.

I am using an N-Series cover/pouch to protect the E61i from dust and scratches. You can take a look at this post of 3 Important Must Haves for the E61i to see the picture.

As for your DivX installation problem, I have sent an email to you on your gmail address. Check and let me know if it has helped or not.

Otherwise the best place to find a solution to your problem would be the Mobile DivX forums. Over there, the developers might be able to provide an answer.

    @Mohammad Yousuf Tutul

The links were already mentioned in the above post, and the DivX Website clearly mentions the Mobile DivX Player download, but I’m writing it again here for you.

You can download the free DivX Mobile Player from it’s Official Website
    http://www.divx.com/mobile/how-to.php

You have to register at http://www.divx.com before you can download the free DivX Mobile player.

Please remember to install the Divx Mobile Application on the Phone Memory. Due to security reasons, Divx does not allow installation on the Memory card anymore.

P/s: I always suggest to download softwares from Official websites.
Downloading softwares from other unknown sources could be dangerous for your phone.

    @Rodgermuriu
I have no idea what registration server & file explorer you are talking about,

If the installation of DivX Mobile is successful in your cell, then on the Options click “Refresh List” and all the converted Mobile DivX videos & movies will be listed.

If you are having more problems then the best place to find a solution to your problem would be the Mobile DivX forums. Over there, the developers might be able to provide an answer.

    i’m just curious
if you convert a full movie (say it’s 700mb in the computer) to a format that is suitable for e61, how large will the filesize be?

and how long will the battery last if you don’t use the phone only for phonecalls?
by that i mean how often will you need to recharge your battery when you watch videos and use the messenger regularly?

Have you tried refreshing the Video List?

Open the DivX player in your Nokia E61i.
    Go to
    OPTIONS> REFRESH LIST

Refreshing the list helps the Mobile player detect all the DivX Videos in the phone.

If you see that the videos cannot be detected, even after you refresh the list, then this means that the Video has not been converted properly to Mobile DivX Format.

Yes, I did refresh. It seems Divx player only supports avi file format. The file I copied was normal divx music video (50 mb), so I was expecting it to play mpg or mpeg files too.
Can you refer a player that supports most common formats? Most of my files are mpg and its pain to convert all files manually.

I cannot figure out where I can go now to download DivX player. I have a Nokia e71 and even on the divx site – I’m finding a lot of difficulty. I’ve tried through the web and through my phone, creating accounts separately – any idea how this can be done?

Have downloaded and installed the converter as well as changed the settings as per your instructions above but not sure how to actually use the converter. have managed to drag a movie into the bottm section but not sure what to do from that point onwards as there is no help menu or indication that the file is being converted. please assist.
