Fring for the Nokia 5800 (Symbian S60 5th Edition) is finally officially here!

Fring is one of my favourite free mobile messengers for chatting. The interface is simple and the application itself is extremely easy to use.

It lets me stay connected to multiple Messengers at the same time, specially Skype, which most other free messengers miss out on. I can easily update my Twitter (Chat Only) through Fring, and another really nice feature is that it also notifies me of any incoming Gmail mails.

Went for lunch to KC Grill restaurant in Islamabad, Pakistan. The presentation was good and the food was okay.

I took a couple of pics of the food, etc with my Nokia N82 Black, which has a 5 Megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens & Xenon Flash. All of the pictures were taken using Auto Scene Modes, which turned out quite nice.

I loved how the Auto White Balance worked well. Even my Sony digicam needs manual adjustment to get it right the first time. Noise levels in ISO 800 pics arn’t too bad. Putting the picture through “Neat Image” software will easily fix the noise levels.

The N82 cannot replace my Digital SLR, but has happily managed to take over my Point-n-Shoot Sony cam

Cheese [mustard dip] Fondue… As I’ve had the opportunity of eating (Halal) Cheese Fondue numerous times when I was living in Switzerland, I was expecting a pot of hot melted cheese with the works when I ordered this, but much to my dismay, KC Grill’s Fondue presentation had no Fondue pot, it didn’t look or smell like Fondue and certainly didn’t taste like it either It was more like a nice “Mustard Cheese Dip with Bread & Sautéed vegetables”

I had first tried out the (Beta) Symbian Nimbuzz way back in March 2008, so when the guys from Nimbuzz.com contacted me with the latest update about their free mobile messenger software, I had to try it out again and see what the Out-Of-Beta Symbian version was like.

I’m so excited! Nokia N97 is my dream-phone

One month back I was in a dilemma whether to buy the Nokia E71 for the QWERTY or the Nokia N82 for the Xenon-Flash & 5MP Carl Zeiss Camera.

When I went towards the E71 I thought that it was simply not fair that Eseries users can’t have a good camera, and when I decided for the N82 I regretted losing the powerful 1500mAh battery and QWERTY keyboard. I was also really sad to lose the large 2.8″ screen of my old Nokia E61i. It was a tough decision.

I wished that Nokia could create one phone with the impressive Multimedia capability of the Nseries and the fantastic Full-keyboard & long battery life capability of the Eseries, and they did it! They merged the bounderies that separated the two N & E-series categories and made one device

Consumers demanded, and Nokia listened. They created my perfect phone: The Nokia N97

Plus for the icing on the cake, they also put in 32GB of on-board memory, 1500 mAh Battery, TV-Out,  N-Gage gaming, 16:9 widescreen video-recording and a massive 3.5″ touch-screen display for internet browsing & watching movies!

Blogging, chatting, emailing, reading ebooks, photography, watching movies and gaming are my hobbies, so the Nokia N97 covers 100% of my needs. It’s got all the specifications I wanted, all except the lack of Xenon-Flash. Alright, I know I’m asking for a *bit* too much. LoL!

But let’s see, according to the current leaked “Nokia 2009 roadmap”, a Xenon-Flash phone & more QWERTY devices are on the list, so it’s VERY possible that there could be something even better in store than the upcoming Nokia N97!

So until that time, the Nokia N97 is on my 2009 wish-list..

I was thinking of getting Nokia’s first mid-range and affordable Touch-screen 5800 XpressMusic phone to replace my N82 in late 2009, but I was really unhappy that the Nokia 5800 had no physical keys, so now it looks like this new upcoming sexy beast, the Nseries Nokia N97 will hopefully be my phone replacement for next year (unless something even better turns up till that time! The guys at AllAboutSymbian.com already have a prototype of the Nokia N97 in their hands, and have done an excellent job of writing down the detailed specifications, so head on over there to read all about it!

Many people have faced the problem of accessing YouTube.com through the phone browsers, as clicking on a video in m.youtube.com website leads to RealPlayer popping up, which in turn gives connection errors, sometimes loading, but never actually working. Even after setting up the Default Access Point in the Settings> Streaming and keeping the Proxy “OFF” doesn’t help.

Personally I don’t use m.youtube.com that’s why I don’t have the settings, but some readers wanted to try, so as soon as I figure out how to fix the connection errors, I’ll share the solution with you guys.

The reason why RealPlayer opens up, is because m.youtube.com website is optimised for Mobile viewing, so it has .3gp format videos, not flash.

Now the thing which most non-techie people don’t know or fail to notice is that our lovely Symbian S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 & Feature Pack 2 devices (with latest firmware updates) have Flash Lite 3.0 which enables simple desktop Flash 8 content to be viewed through the mobile browser

“…Flash Lite 3.0 enabled phones support Flash Lite content as standalone, screensaver and in the browser. This means that you can see YouTube flash videos directly in the S60 Web browser…”

To view flash videos in the S60 Web Browser, you’ll first need to check if you have Flash Lite 3.0 support or not. This can be done by checking the “About Application” of your phone’s “Flash Player“:
Menu> Applications> Media Folder> Flash Player> Options> About Application

Now that you have checked that you have a Flash Lite 3.0 enabled phone, you don’t need to use YouTube’s Mobile Website anymore. Simply log into YouTube’s Original Desktop website and all the videos will work easily.

Go to your S60 Web Browser and check the settings:
S60 Web Browser> Options> Settings> General

S60 Web Browser> Options> Settings> Page

S60 Web Browser> Options> Settings> Privacy

1) Open the www.YouTube.com on the Built-In S60 Web browser.

2) On opening, you will see that the browser has led to
the Mobile Website “m.youtube.com“. Scroll down to the end of the webpage,
and click on ” VIEW DESKTOP VERSION“

4) I selected & opened the “Nokia E71 Smartphone
Review” to view

4) That’s it. Now enjoy the videos in your Symbian S60 browser

As an alternate method to view YouTube videos, I mostly use the MobiTubia application on my Nokia N82.

I’ve been waiting for these themes since ages. The Pure Black theme has totally changed the look of my Nokia N82 Black. Absolutely gorgeous. Love it

The Nokia E75 is Nokia’s upcoming Slider-QWERTY phone with a nice 2.4″ screen. No idea about the exact specifications, but we certainly hope for the best.

For those of you who still have no clue about the yet-unreleased Nokia E75, take a look at the pictures and you’ll get the idea. In the following pictures you can see the Nokia E75 next to Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Touchscreen phone.

I love the Slider-design In this pic, the Slider is open, revealing a beautiful QWERTY keyboard. The screen rotates to landscape mode.
