Got Warid Zahi Postpaid with GPRS Infinity package - UPDATE: Telenor Smartmail package does not allow net on PC anymore!

I’m back again after a long break!

Well, the latest is that I deactivated Telenor’s Smartmail package on my Telenor Persona postpaid connection. It was seriously useless. I’m extremely disappointed by Telenor’s idea of trapping customers by providing incorrect information.

I went to the the main Telenor office in Islamabad where I had bought the Smartmail package, and now they have confirmed that the internet on the PC was ONLY available due to a fault in their system, and they never intended to provide unlimited GPRS/EDGE on Smartmail package for PC use. A very kind person, Mr.Muhammad Ahmed, who commented on my blog has also confirmed this.

Answering a query - About P990i

Been away again, as usual.

About the P990i. Well, long before I decided on the E61i, all my requirements was a mobile with a QWERTY keypad, excellent browsing ability and a big screen for reading books, so Sony Ericsson P910i, P990i, P1i, Nokia 9300, Nokia 9300i, E61, E61i, and E62 were all on my list.

My decision to get the E61i was purely based on my needs. I’ve used both Nokia and Sony Ericsson mobiles for quite some time so I am familiar with their Operating Systems. Nokia is comparatively more stable.

So Vaqar, if you can tell me exactly what comparisons you require I’ll be able to help you better. Sony Ericssons P910i was a device full of bugs, so when the P990i came out, people were a little reluctant to get it.

The reason I decided to go for the E61i over the P990i or rather P1i, was that Sony Ericssons P-series phones do not have EDGE. This was a huge deciding factor for me, as I use Telenor’s EDGE service. After using EDGE, it’s difficult to go back to only GPRS.

Another major deciding factor for me was Nokia’s new Safari-based browser. It is excellent for browsing the internet. If you want to see how both the P990i and the E61i opens Internet pages, please visit the following websites:

I would suggest to go through all the good reviews out there and see which cellphone fits your requirements and budget.

Got the E61i

It’s been some time since I wrote my last post. After much thinking, finally decided to get the E61i and I think I made the best decision ever!

Got my E61i from United Mobile in Islamabad, Blue Area for Rs.26,000 in December 2007.
Before buying I had looked up Nokia’s official website to check which company was providing Authorised Services in Pakistan, United Mobile and Teletec were the only ones listed.

Getting it directly from United Mobile’s shop was expensive, but most of the shops in Jinnah Market & Blue Area had the E61i with “Advance Telecom” warrenty. I did not want to risk getting bad after sales services from Advance, so got United Mobile’s Warrenty.

The package of the E61i included:
Free Nokia MicroSD 256MB card.
Nokia Pop-Port USB connecter.
Mono Headphones.
Charger.

The E61i has exceeded my expectations. The browsing is pure pleasure with Telenor’s EDGE. Downloading speed is 1MB/30 to 45 seconds, which is awesome.

I have installed two free messengers to use MSN messenger & GoogleTalk in the E61i. These softwares also work with all other Symbian S60 3rd Edition phones.

Fring Mobile VOIP messenger with Chat:

Fring has;

TWITTER.

Slick Messenger:

Slick has;
MSN Messenger,
ICQ,
Yahoo,
AIM,
Google Talk,
Jabber

I have installed free MobiReader to read Ebooks, which you can find here:

And free Beta Nokia Audiobook player to manage & listen to Audiobooks, which you can find here:

Please note that Nokia AudioBook is still in testing Beta phase, so there might be some bugs. To date I have not encountered any bugs.

Will write more later.
