A friend of mine, recently bought Telenor’s Smartmail package to use internet on his laptop, and went through hell, because of wrong information given by Telenor’s Call Center about the APN setting.

Telenor only tells customers about defining the Access Point in the phone, but forgets to mention that to use internet on a laptop, you also need to define the “PACKET DATA Access Point” setting in the phone, and the Access Point in Nokia PC Suit.

About 2 months ago, my laptop DVD drive developed a fault, so I sent it in for warranty, thinking that as it’s only a minor fault it will barely take a week to have it fixed or replaced, which to my dismay, was only wishful thinking. The people at the shop informed me that they will have to send the laptop to Karachi HP Authorised Dealers, who will then forward the laptop to Dubai HP dealers, so the whole process will take minimum 15-20 days. Having bought all my electronic products without any mishap, always being provided excellent after sales services and warranty by them for the past 6 years, I trusted them.
20 days went by and there was no sign of the laptop. To cut this long story short, it took the stupid HP dealers in Karachi 2 months to send my laptop back in working condition, without my new HP charger, as according to them, someone stole it from their workshop. Yea right. My brand new laptop had been used and abused with scratches all over the keyboard. After complaining about this, the reply my shopkeeper got from the Karachi HP dealer was, “We replaced the DVD Drive with a brand new one, the scratches were already there, we apologize about the charger and will look into the matter.”
The funniest thing was that all this time I was told that the laptop was sent to Dubai, that is why it was taking time, but guess what? They had it in the Karachi workshop the entire time. Or as I’m guessing, after looking at the History saved in Internet Explorer & their saved MSN Messenger passwords, someone in their workshop had a hell of a good time with it for 2 months.
So much for original & official HP warranty. Next time if there is any problem, I’ll get the people to open the laptop in-front of me and fix it right there, and this time I won’t care if it voids the warranty, at-least I’ll know that nothing is stolen or misused.
